Youth Heartline focuses on child advocacy through a variety of services in Colfax, Taos, and Union counties as well as the Taos Pueblo including: 1) providing volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for foster children; 2) parenting education for families impacted by substance use based in the Nurturing Parenting Program’s curriculum; 3) family empowerment activities including Girls Circle and Boys Council for those aged 12-18; and 4) Safe Exchange Supervised Visitation (SESV) for non-custodial guardians to safely spend time with their children. All of our services emphasize harm reduction and are evidence-based and trauma-informed.
WESST is a home for entrepreneurs, founded 30 years ago by women for women. As a non-profit, we offer consulting, training, and lending to anyone with the passion to start or grow a business. Our mission is to support Taoseños and Northern New Mexicans to access high wage, vibrant careers in our rural community. Taos HIVE is a co-working office and small business support center with onsite UNM-Taos classes. Taos HIVE offers an individualized learning journey for those interested in gaining a job and working online and/or opening a small business. We offer workforce training, credentialing, access to resources, and shared professional development.
Taos HIVE is a community-wide, cross-class movement for career training and job creation that is committed to socially responsible development, wealth equality, and opportunity and access for all. HIVE is a public-private partnership between UNM-Taos, Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, Taos Community Foundation, Northern Area Local Workforce Development Board (WIOA), and the Town of Taos. Together we are addressing economic & workforce development in our community which supports our rich heritage and community values.

*Gain credentials and certifications – UNM-Taos offers onsite college classrooms where you can gain your high school equivalency and college credentials that support you to thrive in an online or small business career.
*Wrap-Around Services – Our onsite supportive services office provides a safe place for coaching and advising, as well as access to resources. HIVE offers shared professional development for all clients, students, and staff.
Taos’ community college, UNM-Taos offers certificate and two-year associate degrees with support to transfer to four-year programs and workforce. Regardless of what your educational and career goals are, UNM-Taos offers courses and programs designed to help you succeed. With 18 certificates, 10 two-year degree programs, and classes offered in five different formats this fall, you can stay on track to get a college diploma. UNM-Taos has one of the lowest tuitions in the state and many scholarships and financial aid is available for those who qualify. We also offer HSE (Formerly GED), English language classes and workforce training at the Taos Education and Career Center (TECC) and short-term business and digital courses at the Taos Hub of Internet-based Vocation and Education (HIVE).

The Taos Education & Career Center (TECC) considers education to be a basic human right throughout the lifespan of a human being. We work with adults and youth, at least 16 years of age, to improve their academic skills in order to:
* Discover and prepare for a career that is meaningful and financially supportive.
*Obtain a High School Equivalency (GED® or HiSET) and prepare for the college entrance exam (ACT Compass®) via College and Career Readiness Classes (CCRS).
*Communicate fluently in English.
*Develop skills to succeed in the workplace, such as technology, workplace communications, and leadership skills.
*Gain Life Skills to be successful and healthy at school, work, and home.
These academic programs are free of charge. Classes are offered during the days and evening or via our Distance Education Program. We also have a computer lab for independent work and the help of volunteer tutors to provide one-on-one instruction.

SER (Service, Employment, and Redevelopment) is a national network of Community Based Organizations(CBO’s) that formulates and advocates initiatives resulting in the increased development and utilization of America’s human resources, with special emphasis on the needs of Hispanics, in the areas of education, training, employment, business and economic opportunity.
Self Help, Inc., formed in 1969, is a non-profit organization which connects families in Northern New Mexico with resources. Self Help, Inc. focuses on enhancing life skills and promoting self-sufficiency. We believe that anyone, when given sufficient means to use their skills, can become economically self-reliant.
The RDC is a regional economic development organization for Northern New Mexico, focused on creating a diverse and sustainable economy. Our principal service areas are Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, Taos, San Miguel, Mora and Sandoval counties.
The RDC works collaboratively to create new jobs in the region by strengthening services to businesses and developing the infrastructure, public policy and workforce to support job growth.

The mission of the New Mexico Economic Development Department is to Improve the lives of New Mexico families by increasing economic opportunities and providing a place for businesses to thrive.
Our programs and initiatives support our mission. The New Mexico Partnership is a statutorily-created public-private organization under contract to the department to market the state globally in order to attract new jobs and investment. Department programs provide direct assistance to New Mexico businesses and communities. Programs and services for businesses can be found in the Business Resource Center. EDD also administers several programs that support Community Development.
The State of New Mexico’s fiscal year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30th of each year. During the summer months each state agency compiles a strategic plan of program initiatives, an accompanying budget, and a set of performance metrics that reflect the key work of each of our programs. These documents are submitted to both the executive and legislative branches on September 1. At the end of each fiscal year we report our progress in an annual report. Job Training Incentive Program
New Mexico has one of the most generous training incentive programs in the country. The Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) funds classroom and on-the-job training for newly-created jobs in expanding or relocating businesses for up to 6 months. The program reimburses 50-75% of employee wages. Custom training at a New Mexico public educational institution may also be reimbursed.
Who Qualifies: Eligibility for JTIP funds depends on the company’s business, the role of the newly-created jobs in that business, and the trainees themselves. Please read through the eligibility guidelines (see Policy and Procedures below) and then fill out the Eligibility Questionnaire to begin the JTIP application process. A member of JTIP staff will contact you to determine your company’s eligibility and discuss the program in detail.

Venture Acceleration Fund
The Venture Acceleration Fund (VAF) makes investments in early-stage and growth-stage businesses. Established in 2006 as a grant program by Los Alamos National Laboratory LANL), VAF changed in 2014 to include funding payback that is triggered by defined conditions. Under the new protocol, VAF is structured as an interest-free loan, with repayment only if a company is acquired, achieves certain revenue goals or leaves New Mexico within a specified time frame. Payback trigger ensures funds are available to assist additional eligible companies in the future. Read the full terms here: vafnm.org/terms. Companies located in these northern New Mexico counties are eligible: Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Sandoval, Rio Arriba, Taos, San Miguel and Mora.
While VAF is largely funded by Los Alamos National Laboratory and other economic development organizations, which contribute to the total amount available. For example, in 2015, LANL contributed $83,000, New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NM MEP) contributed $25,000, Santa Fe County contributed $20,000, and Los Alamos County contributed $16,000 to the $144,000 total fund.
