The Facts About Disconnections for Kit Carson Electric Cooperative
Kit Carson Electric Cooperative has three companies. There will be NO DISCONNECTIONS for Kit Carson Electric, Propane or Internet for residential customers during the winter months. It is very important for those who are being challenged to pay bills, make a payment plan with each utility company.
- On October 22, 2020, the NMPRC extended the utility bill moratorium for the duration of the Governor’s Emergency Orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic. It both prohibits the discontinuation of residential customer utility service and waives late fees on residential accounts.
- Kit Carson Electric Cooperative is under NMPRC regulation and follows the winter disconnection moratorium. This winter, between November 15, 2020, and March 15, 2021, electric cooperative members are protected by the annual winter heating disconnection moratorium.
- Kit Carson Propane voluntarily follows the rules of electric, does not disconnect people during the winter months and has not disconnected customers in need during the pandemic.
- Kit Carson Internet took the FCC’s Keep Americans Connected Pledge which is a voluntary commitment not to disconnect internet customers during the COVID 19 Pandemic.
THEREFORE, at this time, there will be NO DISCONNECTIONS for Kit Carson Electric, Propane or Internet residential customers.
